Updates In The Cyprus Temporary Residence Permit For Visitors

As of the 1st of January 2023, new changes came into effect in relation to the Cyprus Temporary Residence application for visitors.

What Do The Changes In The Temporary Residence Permit Include?

These changes affect the financial and quality criteria for residency that should be satisfied by the applicants for the submission of this type of application.

Specifically, the changes include the following:

  • It is necessary for all adults to provide an original criminal record certificate from the country of current residence and origin ( in case it differs)
  • Necessity for all adults and children over six years old to provide an original medical examination certificate of blood tests, proving that the adult applicant does not suffer from Hepatitis B or C, HIV, or Syphilis, as well as a chest X-ray for tuberculosis with a doctor’s report, stamped and/or certified by a specialist doctor from the Republic of Cyprus
  • The necessity to provide evidence that the main applicant of the application has sufficient and stable resources, derived from a stable or satisfactory income of the applicant outside the Republic. The monthly income of the applicant should not be less than €2,000 or €24,000 per year for one person. This amount is increased by 20% for the dependent spouse or for each dependent parent and by 15% for the dependent child.
  • Necessity to submit a detailed statement of bank account transactions in a financial institution in the Republic of Cyprus, for the last 12 months in case of a renewal or from the date of opening the account in the case of a first permit, showing the foreign remittances in the name of the main applicant which in total should not it is less than €2,000 per month or €24,000 per year for one person. This amount increases by 20% for the dependant spouse and by 15% for each dependent child.

These new changes have expanded the eligibility criteria to include the possibility of the submission of a temporary residence permit for:

  • Dependent adult children of a person who holds a permanent residence permit in Cyprus up to the age of 25 or up to a year after the completion of their studies.
  • Dependant parents and parents-in-law of a person who holds a permanent residence permit in Cyprus

Submitting this type of application gives the main applicant and his family the right to legally stay in Cyprus even after the expiry of their visa and until the examination and approval of such.

The examination of the application usually takes around a minimum of 6 months and upon approval, the visitors will be granted a first temporary residence permit of one year with the right to renew provided all the eligibility criteria are met.
